It is scientifically proven that looking at nature photos has a positive effect on people. The effect is almost the same as the positive effect of actually being in nature. Environmental psychologists have discovered that viewing nature photos evokes positive physical reactions in the body. These positive emotional responses drop heart rate and blood pressure almost immediately. These calming effects are evoked simply by looking at nature photos. Maybe in nature you can take a picture of the environment that you like and then place it on your mobile phone or computer. If you have a hard time, your heart rate and blood pressure rise, then it is enough to dwell for a while on the moment you took the photo and what feeling it evokes. Give it a try.

People who have been admitted to hospital recover faster in spaces where they can look at nature. The research group found that the blood pressure and heart rate of the elderly dropped if they could look out the window at the moving tree tops or past floating clouds. So keep the blinds away from the windows and let the patients look at the treetops. These people also need lesser painkillers. There are so many benefits to be gained for patients by using nature.

Not everyone has leafy nature nearby. A nature photo can be like the photo in this blog. I use this photo to bring my head back to the moment by the sea. The wind, the sound, the smell, and so on. A happy moment for me. The thought of the wooden pole, so damaged, protecting the coast  from the rough sea. Every time I recall the memory of that day, my mind is busy with something else and I am absolutely happy. Maybe you can also try this? Go into nature and take a picture of something in nature and place it as a background on your screen. See if you can go back to the beautiful moment in difficult moments.

Forest Mind instructors use of healthy outdoor air on every walk. Simple cognitive exercises are done. All together, these are walks with a very limited distance and the simple exercises the participants experience as beneficial and pleasant. After just a few minutes, participants notice that their excitement disappears. Blood pressure and heart rate drop very quickly to normal values. Through the exercises the thinking changes. With some regularity you step out of your head and the attention is shifted to something in nature. All participants indicate that they have a very different experience for the rest of the day.

As a Forest Mind instructor, I focus on the group and every individual during the walk. A nice job, but the positive feedback from the participants makes every Forest Mind walk a great experience for me too. If you want to participate and get to know Forest Mind, you are … welcome.
